Installation requirements

• XMetaL Author Enterprise 8.0 or higher
• .NET Framework 3.5 or higher (if you are using .NET Framework 4.0, .NET Framework 3.5 is also required)
• Windows Vista or higher

This product has been tested with Microsoft SharePoint 2010 (version 14.0.4762.1000) and Microsoft SharePoint 2013.

Note: Please refer to the cleanup instructions if you upgraded from a previous version.

Implementation notes

Configuring the location of the template directory

To allow users to create new documents from repository-based templates with XMetaL Author Enterprise – SP Edition, you need to configure the template directory. See the 'Configuring the location of the template directory' section in the XMetaL Author Enterprise 8.0 - SP Edition Administrator's Guide for instructions.

New features

• Form-based login support - Form Based Authentication (FBA) provides your own authentication method using a web form. More and more companies are using FBA as a way of extending a site for non-Active Directory (AD) users.

Known issues

Older versions don't remove .NET registrations

If you have upgraded your version of XMetaL Author Enterprise - SP Edition, some .NET global-assembly cache entries are not removed and can cause unexpected behavior after upgrading. Follow these instructions below to correct this issue.

Warning: To prevent data loss, you must be either check in, or undo checkout for, all working files. The upgrade invalidates the local cache for working files.

1. Uninstall the previous version using the "Add or Remove Programs" feature in Windows Control Panel. The product should be listed as "XMetaL Author Enterprise - SP Edition".
2. Run the cleanup tool appropriate for your Windows version, downloadable from here, as follows:
   • In Windows 7 or 8, use the "Run as administrator" feature to run "Windows 7\SP_clear_cache.bat"
   • Install the latest version of XMetaL Author Enterprise - SP Edition.

Network drive must be mapped to import documents with relative references from a network

Importing documents with relative references from a network location can be only done successfully is the network drive is mapped. Importing directly from a network drive may cause relative references, in a map or topic, to break.

Canceling login

If you cancel the login process, XMetaL Author for SharePoint hangs. To log in again, go to Task Manager, select the Processes tab, and then end the xmetal80.exe process. Press CTRL when re-opening XMetaL Author for SharePoint. If you are prompted to end the previous session, select "Yes".

Incompatible cache causes error when accessing repository

If you have upgraded XMetaL Author Enterprise - SP Edition 6.0 Beta and receive an error when trying to open the repository, the cache is incompatible with the latest installed version of XMetaL. Follow these instructions to correct this issue.

Occasional error when opening a web link in a DITA map.

An error message may be displayed before a web link is opened in a DITA map. If the error message appears, click OK. The web link will then open as normal.
